Classroom Aide at Kids School at Lady Liberty After-School Program

Kids School at Lady Liberty Academy Charter School, a New Jersey After 3 program, is seeking adventurous and passionate educators to work with Newark's children. Kids Corporation is a 35-year old organization serving 4,000 children in Newark, NJ. We run summer and after school programs; we provide curriculum and materials to 39 youth development programs throughout the city; and we operate Kids Camp, a day camp for Newark kids. We are looking for motivated people, passionate about working with children to provide them educational inspiration and guidance.

This position is for Classroom Aides in the after-school program, who support Head Teachers and Teacher Assistants in a class of 15-20 students (Grades K-8). In addition to helping the Teachers and TAs run the class, Aides also accompany their students to dance, music, art and sports classes; assist with homework; and supervise children in recreational activities. Benefits:

$8 per hour
Scholarship of $900-$1,250 from Americorps (can be used for college, graduate school or loans)

Requirements:

High school degree
Ability to work with children in a classroom
Good character, sense of humor, integrity, and flexibility
Previous experience working with youth
Strong supervisory skills
Energetic and enthusiastic
Willing to have fun and make a difference in the lives of children

Responsibilities:

Supervise children during their daily activities
Recognize and respond to opportunities for problem solving in and out of the classroom
Provide opportunities for children so that each child experiences success during the program
Serve as a good role model for the children
