Summer Head Teacher

 Kids Summer Schools, a model program operating at one site in the South Ward this year, is seeking adventurous and passionate educators to work with Newark's children. Kids Corporation is a 35-year old organization serving 4,500 children in Newark, NJ. We run summer and after school programs; we provide curriculum and materials to 39 different youth development programs throughout the city; and we operate Kids Camp, a day camp for Newark kids.

We are looking for motivated people who are passionate about working with children to provide them with educational inspiration and guidance. You will be working in our Kids Summer School, teaching one subject to rotating classes of 20 students in either the lower school (K-4) or upper school (5-8), along with two teacher assistants.  One important role of each Head Teacher is to teach, guide and role model for the Teacher Assistants so that they gain hands-on experience working with elementary school children in inner city schools.  By summer's end TA's should be largely running each classroom with supervisory assistance from the Head Teachers.  All teachers also accompany their class on weekly field trips to museums, the zoo, local businesses, and Kids Camp.

This experience is not for the rigid, timid, lazy, or faint of heart.  We need strong, dedicated, passionate, creative educators who believe in the potential of every child and always put forth twice as much effort as required.  If you can inspire, we want you!
