Head Teacher at Kids School at Lady Liberty After-School Program

Kids School at Lady Liberty Academy Charter School, a New Jersey After 3 program, is seeking adventurous and passionate educators to work with Newark's children. Kids Corporation is a 35-year old organization serving 4,000 children in Newark, NJ. We run summer and after school programs; we provide curriculum and materials to 39 youth development programs throughout the city; and we operate Kids Camp, a day camp for Newark kids. We are looking for motivated people, passionate about working with children to provide them educational inspiration and guidance.

This position is for Head Teachers in the after-school program, who teach various subjects to one class of 15-20 students (Grades K-8), supplemented by Aides as well as college-student Teacher Assistants. One important role of each Head Teacher is to teach, guide and role model for the Teacher Assistants and Aides so that they gain hands-on experience working with children in the classroom. In addition to teaching enrichment lessons based on monthly themes, teachers also accompany their students to dance, music, art and sports classes; supervise homework; and provide one-on-one tutoring. Benefits:

$16-25 per hour based on certification, experience and schedule
Scholarship of $900-$1,250 from Americorps to be used for graduate school or loans

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree
Good character, sense of humor, integrity, and flexibility
Substantial previous experience working with youth in a classroom setting
Strong supervisory skills
Energetic and enthusiastic
Willing to have fun and make a difference in the lives of children

Responsibilities:

Plan daily lesson plans around monthly curriculum themes
Supervise and lead children through their daily activities
Recognize and respond to opportunities for problem solving in and out of the classroom
Provide opportunities for children so that each child experiences success during the program
Teach creatively in order to make learning fun
Serve as a good role model for the children, Teacher Assistants and Aides
